Ukraine is experiencing its driest summer in 150 years due to rapid climate change, leading to a shift in suitable crops towards the south. With temperatures rising at almost double the global average, the region is becoming more suitably for subtropical crops like jujube, almonds, pomegranates, bananas, figs, and various citrus fruits. This change has allowed for increased yield and earlier harvests of traditional crops by 15-20%. However, the rising temperatures and decreasing rainfall pose challenges for farmers, such as the need for costly drip irrigation. Despite potential global plant losses due to climate change, Ukrainian farmers see an opportunity to grow exotic crops and enjoy multiple harvests throughout the year.
