Germany: Almost 9% fewer aquaculture farms in 2020

As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the number of aquaculture farms fell by a good 200 or 8.7% compared to 2019, while fish production remained almost unchanged with a slight increase of just under 49 tonnes (+ 0.3%). It looks different with the mussels. After a very good mussel year in 2019, mussel production fell by 5,900 tons to 13,500 tons in 2020, around 30% below the previous year's level. The total production of fish, mussels and other aquaculture products was around 32,200 tons. That was 15% less than in 2019.
