With the aim of increasing banana production and strengthening the legal economy in communities vulnerable to drug trafficking, the National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (Devida) delivered 10,000 seedlings of the Hartón and Bellaco varieties to 256 families in the district of Nieva, in the province of Condorcanqui, Amazonas region. The seedlings will allow the installation of 80 hectares of cultivation and improve the genetic quality of bananas in the final field. The intervention also seeks to compensate families who suffered the loss of their plantations due to intense rainfall. Ely Suich Ampam, a farmer from the native community of Yahuahua, expressed: "With this support, my commitment is to produce increasingly more high-quality banana plantlets with the assistance of Devida".
