(Jeonju=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Dong-cheol = Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 1st that a thorough examination following a report of pig deaths at a pig farm in Gochang County confirmed an outbreak of African swine fever (ASF). This is the first case in Jeonbuk and the fifth nationwide. The province immediately implemented movement restrictions at the farm in question, and deployed the initial response team from the Animal Hygiene and Disease Control Support Headquarters to control access to the farm, conduct disinfection, and take emergency disease control measures. Approximately 18,000 pigs at the affected farm were all culled, and a quarantine area within a 10 km radius of the farm was established, with movement restrictions, concentrated disinfection, and thorough examinations being carried out on 10 farms and 42,000 pigs to prevent the spread. Additionally, 46 joint prevention teams and 93 available resources are being mobilized to strengthen disinfection. A provincial official urged pig farmers to control access by outsiders, thoroughly disinfect, and immediately report any abnormal signs. sollenso@yna.co.kr
