Animal fairs and exhibitions are banned in the region adjacent to the two districts of Dobrich and Silistra on the other side of the Bulgarian-Romanian border. The Directorate for Sanitary, Veterinary, and Food Issues (DSVSA) of Constanta announced to the mayors in the district that organizing animal fairs is prohibited due to the risk of spreading swine fever. Fines for those who violate the rules are strict, reports agrointel.ro. Swine fever is a problem for farmers and other animal owners in the region, which is why live animal fairs can no longer be held in Constanta district. The temporary measure has been taken to prevent the spread of African swine fever. Markets, warehouses, and unauthorized gatherings of animals are sanctioned with fines ranging from 6000 to 18,000 lei (2306 – 6,919 leva).
