Arequipenian ocopa became the third Peruvian preparation to receive the recognition of Traditional Guaranteed Specialty (ETG) by the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi). This distinction highlights the cultural and gastronomic value of one of the most emblematic recipes of southern Peru, consolidating its protection and promotion at the national and international level. This important national distinction has also been granted to the Anís de Concepción Bread and the Huancaína Potatoes according to the tradition of the province of Huancayo. The certificate was delivered by the director of Distinctive Signs of Indecopi, Sergio Chuez, to the Picantera Society of Arequipa, promoter of the request.
