Pork imports in Argentina have surged by 194% year-on-year in the last month, reaching 2,206 tons, and by 44% in the first nine months of 2024, totaling 7,841 tons. The third quarter saw a 50% increase in imports compared to the same period in the previous year. The market is becoming increasingly complex for local producers due to high local production levels, rising imports, and stagnant pork exports. Over 95% of pork imports are from Brazil, with the rest from Chile. The price differential between Brazilian and locally produced pork is significant. Additionally, pork exports in September recovered, with a volume of 1,625 tons, a 21% increase from August and a 92% increase from September of the previous year. However, the trade balance for pork is highly negative for Argentina.
