By order of the Executive Director of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) dated July 23, the purchase of raw sheep and goat milk from farms in the territory of Plovdiv Province has been prohibited. This new measure has been introduced due to the spread of outbreaks of sheep pox among small ruminants. As of yesterday, there are 65 outbreaks, with animals already destroyed in 42 of the sites. The situation remains dynamic and extremely serious, with information being updated in accordance with the development of the epizootic situation. Compensations will be paid in advance In order to support the affected livestock farmers, in the event of a confirmed sheep pox outbreak on a site, within one week of the outbreak being identified, the farmers will receive an advance compensation of 200 leva per euthanized animal.
