Australia has secured a deal to export plums to Vietnam, expanding its horticulture exports beyond peaches and nectarines. This agreement is part of a two-way agricultural market access agreement intended to supply Australian plums to Vietnam while allowing Vietnamese passion fruit to be exported to Australia. The trade is expected to reach AUD3.7 billion between 2023 and 2024, strengthening Australia's trade relationship with Vietnam, its sixth largest export market. Discussions regarding Australian blueberries and Vietnamese grapefruit exports are also underway. The Australian Government welcomes Vietnam as a key diversification market for its exporters and is focusing on opening more opportunities to bolster agricultural sector growth and creation of horticulture industry jobs.
