Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) forecasts a rise in cattle population to 28.82 million in June 2023, leading to increased production and exports. In 2023, Australian beef production is expected to grow by 6.3%, reaching 2.11 million tonnes, with an additional 6.6% growth to 2.25 million tonnes in 2024. However, increased production hinges on hiring more workers to boost processing capacity. While exports to the US may increase due to reduced beef production, sales to China remain uncertain due to political tensions, nevertheless, there is an anticipated recovery in live cattle exports.
