In May, Australia exported 599,767 tonnes of barley and 452,182 tonnes of sorghum, with feed barley comprising the majority of the barley exports. The feed barley figure increased by 14% from April, while the malting figure decreased by 48%. The demand for Australian barley in the Middle East, particularly in Saudi Arabia, has been poor in recent months, and the competitive pricing from Russia is likely to affect shipments from Australia. Additionally, China is expected to reopen its market to Australian barley after reviewing tariffs.
