The Valencian Association of Farmers (AVA-Asaja) has warned of an "extraordinary multiplication of rabbits throughout this year that once again puts their tremendous impact on Valencian and Spanish agriculture in the spotlight". The rabbit plague causes especially severe damage in vineyards (from the moment the first green shoots of the vines appear, decimating the production of the next harvest), in orange groves (by gnawing the entire circumference of the trunks, they sentence the trees to death because they cut off the circulation of the elaborated sap), in fruit, citrus, and olive tree seedlings (even in those cases where protective nets have been installed) and in the production of herbaceous crops, vegetables, melons, and watermelons that are near their harvest time.
