Russia has seen a significant increase in avocado imports, with a 14% rise in 2021 making it the country's record year despite economic stagnation and self-isolation. The import volume has surged by 4.4 times over the last five years, with the per capita consumption being relatively low but higher than neighboring Ukraine. Israel and Peru are the primary suppliers, contributing to 60% of the imports, with Colombia, Kenya, South Africa, and Mexico also playing a role. Notably, avocado imports from the EU, facilitated by Belarusian traders, have decreased in 2021 and are expected to cease in 2022 due to Belarus's voluntary self-isolation from the EU market, implying higher prices for Russian consumers.
