The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency destroyed 28,000 ducks due to an outbreak of avian influenza. The infection was detected in three poultry farms in the territory of the town of Rakovski. Around the affected livestock sites, 3-kilometer precautionary and 10-kilometer surveillance zones have been established, which include the town of Rakovski and villages from the municipalities of Rakovski, Maritsa, and Kaloyanovo. The Agency's experts are conducting an epizootic study and monitoring the movements of domestic birds and products derived from them, as well as feed and transport vehicles associated with the farms. The main measures to limit avian influenza are stringent biosecurity measures and keeping birds indoors, as the infection spreads through contact with other infected birds or contaminated feed and water.
