Bay leaves, used in the pharmaceutical, food, chemical, dye, and cosmetic sectors, have become a source of livelihood for the forest villagers in Akseki district of Antalya. Harvested in the Sinanhoca neighborhood of Akseki during a period of approximately four weeks in December, and in some years in January-February, the bay leaves provide income for about 100 families. The bay leaves, which are collected in the square and weighed, are bought by firms on the spot at 25 lira per kilogram to be processed.
