Every June marks the peak season for bayberries, with China's bayberry exports continuing to show a positive trend.
In the early morning of June 12, 60 boxes of Xianju bayberries successfully arrived in Singapore via a cold-chain special flight, marking the first time Xianju bayberries have been directly exported overseas. While China has been exporting bayberries to Singapore for several years, previous exports were always through third-party agents. This year, the Taizhou Business Representative Office in Singapore (Southeast Asia) held a special product introduction conference, directly connecting with local purchasers and facilitating this self-initiated export.
Beyond Xianju, bayberry exports from multiple regions in China are showing simultaneous increases in volume and price. According to statistics from the Taizhou Customs under Hangzhou Customs, in the first five months of this year, Taizhou's bayberry exports reached 120.5 tons, a year-on-year increase of 124.5%, with a total value of 7.211 million yuan, representing a 168.1% increase. In Qingtian, Lishui, Zhejiang, bayberry exports have also seen explosive growth. This year, over 6 tons of bayberries will be shipped from Hangzhou to Rotterdam, Netherlands, with individual prices ranging from 14-15 yuan. Xia Xiaoqing, general manager of Qingtian Zhongzhi Industrial and Trade Co., Ltd., stated that this year's bayberry export volume to Europe is expected to grow by more than 20% compared to last year.
In terms of pricing, Chinese bayberries have demonstrated strong competitiveness in overseas markets. Individual bayberries can fetch up to 31.1 yuan in Dubai, around 20 yuan in Singapore, and 3-4 euros per piece for medium to large fruits over 25 grams in European markets.
The simultaneous increase in volume and price of Chinese bayberry exports stems from multiple factors. With the continuous improvement of agricultural modernization, bayberry cultivation techniques have become increasingly mature, with ongoing variety optimization and significant quality enhancement. Simultaneously, advances in preservation and logistics technologies have provided strong support for bayberry exports. Advanced pre-cooling dehumidification and cold-chain transportation technologies effectively extend bayberry shelf life.
