With the onset of the autumn migration period, the appearance of avian influenza in Hungary poses an increased risk once again. The laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) has now confirmed the presence of the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus in a flock of 19,700 meat ducks in Tiszajenő, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County. Following the identification of the disease, the authority immediately began the process of culling the infected flock and implementing the necessary epidemiological measures. The suspicion of infection was raised by the increased mortality, lethargy, loss of appetite, and neurological symptoms observed in the flock. Laboratory tests confirmed the presence of the H5N1 subtype, which has caused severe economic damage in domestic poultry farming in previous years.
