In 2024, Indonesia saw a significant increase in aquaculture production by 13.64%, with the total farmed fish production reaching 6.37 million tons and seaweed production at 10.80 million tons. This increase was attributed to the country's blue economy programs and the average income of fish farmers also saw a rise of 4.55%. The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries also successful in boosting the production of five leading export commodities: shrimp, crab, seaweed, lobster, and tilapia. Additionally, the ministry plans to support the development of tuna cultivation in Biak, Papua, in an effort to reduce pressure on tuna fishing and maintain sustainability.
