Peru has marked a significant achievement in its agricultural exports with the first shipment of fresh blueberries from the new port of Chancay to Shanghai, China. This 26-day journey is part of a strategy to cater to the rising demand in Asia, including countries like South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, and Vietnam, by employing innovative cultivation methods and new varieties such as Sekoya. The Asian market, especially China, values the freshness and sweetness of Peruvian blueberries, offering higher prices. The U.S. and Europe also contribute to the demand, making up 40% and 30% of exports, respectively. The blueberry industry is crucial for Peru's economy, providing jobs and fostering local development. With current exports of 250-280 containers weekly, the industry anticipates further growth, potentially surpassing bananas in global popularity.
