The Bolivian government is set to resume issuing new beef export permits in March, driven by increased international demand, particularly from China. This decision comes after a suspension in new permits in February, aimed at reducing local beef prices, which were over Bs 60 per kilo. Despite the measure, the price drop has been minimal, and the government aims to further reduce meat prices. The suspension of exports was not expected to negatively impact the Bolivian economy, as February sees low demand from China. However, in March and especially April, when demand from China increases, the losses from smuggling, speculation, and the lack of foreign currency and markets could be more noticeable.
