Brazil has declared itself free of foot and mouth disease without vaccination and will request the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) to recognize this status. This move is aimed at opening more markets for its meat exports, particularly in countries like Japan and South Korea, where the lack of this status currently prevents Brazil from selling its beef. The request for WOAH recognition is expected to be approved in May, 2025. Brazil is the world's largest beef exporter, with China and the United States as its main buyers.
