The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) has introduced a new blackberry cultivar, 'BRS Terena', designed for the fresh market. This new variety is renowned for its high productivity, sweeter taste, reduced acidity, and extended post-harvest shelf life, offering a net profitability of approximately 30,000 reais per hectare. Additionally, BRS Terena features a lower thorn density, making it easier to handle and harvest. Recommended for the southern, southeastern, and some northeastern regions of Brazil, this cultivar is now available through authorized nurseries. Its sweeter taste and improved conservation properties make it a significant advancement over the commonly grown Tupy variety.
