Brazilian farmers and the government have disagreed over the government's decision to import rice due to floods in Rio Grande do Sul, the country's primary rice-producing state. The Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA) has filed a lawsuit, known as Direct Action of Unconstitutionality (ADI), aiming to halt the National Supply Company’s (Conab) first public auction for purchasing imported rice. The CNA argues that rice imports could destabilize the domestic rice market, leading to price instability and harming local farmers. The lawsuit also challenges the constitutionality of the import authorization and criticizes the government for not consulting local producers and underestimating the rice harvest data.
