The three largest brewers in India—United Breweries, AB InBev, and Carlsberg—have established the Brewers Association of India to promote the beer market and advocate for industry interests. In collaboration with the World Brewing Alliance, the association aims to drive innovation, moderation, and sustainability. Their initial focus is on lobbying for a change in the tax regime, which currently taxes beer and spirits based on volume rather than alcohol content, making beer relatively more expensive. They also seek to address restrictive retail licensing and high distribution costs. Despite its potential, the Indian beer market remains small, and the association aims to unlock this potential and encourage moderate alcohol consumption.
