During the first half of the 2024-2025 marketing year, Ukraine exported over 403.5 thousand tons of sugar, with 98.4% of that heading to the global market and the remainder to the European Union. The main recipients of these exports were Bulgaria, Greece, and Italy, with Turkey also playing a significant role. In the production season of 2024, Ukraine managed to produce 1.8 million tons of sugar, leaving a surplus for export due to a domestic demand of approximately 900 thousand tons per year. Starting January 1, 2025, Ukrainian sugar producers have gained access to the European Union market, thanks to new trade liberalization agreements, potentially allowing for increased exports to the EU.
