A USDA FAS/Sofia report predicts a significant reduction in Bulgaria's oilseed crop for MY 2024/25 due to extreme heat and drought in July and August. The rapeseed crop is expected to decrease by 9% from last year and 36% from two years ago, with a 12% reduction in harvested area and a 5.7% drop in average yield. The sunflower seed crop is projected to fall by 4% from last year and 21% from MY 2022/23, despite an increase in planted area. This decline may lead to a shortage of seeds, reduced exports, and processing, affecting Bulgaria's position as the EU's leading sunflower producer and increasing EU demand for oilseeds, vegetable oils, and meal.
