Vietnam: Ca Mau mullet price increased sharply

In the past few years, the price of commercial mullet (dried mullet) in Ca Mau has remained low, at about 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg. In particular, from the time of social distancing in 2021, the output of bream is more and more difficult, causing farmers to lose money. However, recently, the price of commercial bream has increased sharply. Especially, at the beginning of September, the price of bream of 8 fish/kg was purchased by traders for more than 70,000 VND/kg. After that, the price stabilized again at about 50,000 VND/kg. According to local people, a mullet farming season lasts about 1 year. The cost of raising finished bream is about 30,000 - 35,000 VND/kg. With the current selling price, farmers are quite profitable. In Ca Mau, mullet is intensively cultured in two districts of U Minh and Tran Van Thoi.
