Café, bananas, lemon, and eggs lead the price increase of a basket 2.5% more expensive

The shopping basket has become 2.5% more expensive this year compared to 2024, the smallest increase in the last four years, but with foods showing more pronounced rises; for example, ground coffee is 54% more expensive, Canary bananas 36%, lemons 33%, and eggs 30%. In the last year, six out of ten of the basic basket products analyzed by the Consumer Organization (OCU) have risen in price, with a special emphasis on fresh foods which are 6.7% more expensive. The organization presented this Wednesday the main conclusions of the annual study on supermarkets for which it has visited more than 700 establishments and collected 106,320 prices of a basket of 241 fresh and packaged food products. The national average savings on the shopping basket depending on the supermarket chosen is this year 1,132 euros, 11% less than last year.
