The camelid sector is crucial for food security and economic stability in the Andean regions, according to Hugo Lamas, an agricultural engineer from Argentina's National Institute of Agricultural Technology. The sector generates income through the commercialization of products like meat and fiber, and the communities adopt sustainable management practices for camelids, especially vicuñas. This sustainable use of the vicuña resource is highlighted during the International Year of Camelids, which aims to strengthen regional cooperation and promote the sector's economic, ecological, and cultural sustainability, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.
