Over the past ten years, the prices of healthier foods have seen a significant increase of about 21%, whereas unhealthy foods experienced a rise of almost 15%. However, in the last two years, the annual price increase of unhealthy foods has surpassed that of healthier options. The price rise varies greatly among different food categories, with fresh vegetables seeing a 6% increase, fruit prices soaring by 26% to 29%, and the cost of vegetable preserves and dried fruit and nuts escalating by 12% and 29% respectively. These fluctuations in food prices are largely attributed to weather conditions, which impact harvest yields, and to a lesser extent, to preserves being less affected by such influences.
