A report released on April 1, 2024, by aimi-cereals surveyed various aspects of the agricultural sector, including sales channels, storage status, carry-over stocks, and sowing intentions for the autumn/winter campaign of 2024. The overall harvest yields increased by 4% across six crops, leading to a 3% rise in total tonnages compared to the previous season. The report noted that milling wheat, feed wheat, malting barley, feed barley, milling oats, and feed oats were at various stages of completion by April 1, with milling wheat and feed wheat fully harvested.
The report also highlighted an increase in unsold stocks of feed wheat, feed barley, and milling wheat from the previous year, while unsold stocks of malting barley decreased. Autumn/winter sowings for feed wheat, feed barley, milling wheat, malting barley, milling oats, and feed oats were predicted to decrease or increase depending on the crop, with only 1.2% of feed wheat having been sown by April 1, 2024. The weather conditions during the 2023/24 campaign played a significant role in the agricultural outcomes, with some regions experiencing dryness, while others faced hail damage and delays due to weather conditions. Despite these challenges, many crops performed better than expected, with harvest conditions varying across the country.
