The sweet chestnut season has commenced in Hungary, with the national Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) reporting a plantation area of 249 hectares, primarily located in Western and South Transdanubia counties. The annual yield is estimated between 200 and 500 tonnes due to the limited number of plantations and lack of cultivation technology advancements. Hungary's sweet chestnut exports are insignificant, but there is a high domestic demand, leading to an annual import of 2,000 to 2,500 tonnes, valued between HUF 1-1.2 billion, mainly from Italy.
