(Cheongju=Yonhap News) Reporter Cheon Gyeong-hwan = Cheongju City announced on the 21st that the 'Leek Seedling Cultivation Mechanization Technology Demonstration Project' applied to local farms since last year is yielding results.
The Cheongju Agricultural Technology Center provided mechanization equipment such as automatic seed planters, rotary tillers, and dedicated pots for a 30-hectare cultivation area.
The Oseong regional crop group, which received equipment support, jointly produced 24,000 leek seedlings last year and plans to produce 34,000 in 2025. This has led to a 41% reduction in production costs and a 70% decrease in seeding time.
The increase in production efficiency has led to the securing of stable sales channels.
The crop group, based on a joint shipment system, has entered into contract cultivation and regular supply agreements with major distribution companies, earning an average of 400 million to 450 million won last year.
A city official said, "In the future, we will expand the dissemination of customized technology to strengthen the agricultural competitiveness of Cheongju City and actively contribute to increasing farmers' income."
