In 2024, Poland experienced a significant surge in cherry imports, with May seeing a record high of over 1,000 tons, the highest since 2004. This influx occurred at a time when the domestic market was already saturated, leading to a substantial drop in prices. The import primarily came from Serbia, and while some cherries were of high quality, the majority were of average quality and sold at competitive prices in wholesale markets. This situation resulted in unsatisfactory prices for local growers, especially for the popular Burlat variety. The early vegetation start in Poland and southern Europe that year contributed to the increased supply.
