The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) in the Los Lagos region is informing potato producers that the deadline to register the plantings for the current season ends on December 31.

This procedure is mandatory for all farmers located within the Potato Quarantine Pest-Free Area, which spans from the province of Arauco to the Magallanes region. "We are reminding about this procedure in advance, considering that the planting season is already underway," stated Regional Director of SAG, Francisco Briones. Registering potato crops allows SAG to keep updated information on the planted area, varieties used, and seed origin, essential data for guiding sanitary surveillance actions that aim to preserve the phytosanitary status of the region. It also allows for demonstrating the origin of potatoes marketed in the area. The procedure is free of charge, and farmers must approach the nearest SAG office to report the planted area, variety, and origin of the seed used, which must be legal (certified, current, or own, provided it proves to have been produced on the same property).
