In 2022, China experienced a 40% increase in apple imports, reaching a total of 95.5 thousand tons, the highest in three seasons and one of the highest historically. New Zealand and South Africa were the primary suppliers, contributing 58% and 30% of the imports, respectively. Other countries like Chile, the United States, France, Australia, and Poland also exported apples to China. The surge in imports is attributed to China's wealthy population preferring premium apples.
