China has made history by importing 200 kilograms of dried chili peppers from Rwanda, marking the country's first import of African dried chili products. This event underscores China's position as the world's largest consumer of chili peppers, with a notable increase in imported dried chili volumes in the first half of this year. The climate of Rwanda is well-suited for chili cultivation, offering cost advantages. Following the first China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo in 2019, Rwanda has gained access to the Chinese market for dried chili products, with Hunan International Development Co., Ltd. planning to import 50,000 tons of dried chili from Rwanda over the next five years. Additionally, the company aims to export agricultural equipment to Rwanda to boost its pepper planting and processing capabilities. This development aligns with Hunan Province's strategy to explore trade and processing of non-resource-based products from Africa.
