China has significantly increased its purchase of Indian rapeseed meal, acquiring 52,000 tonnes in the past three weeks, a substantial increase from its 2024 import forecast from India. This move is in response to a 100 percent tariff imposed on Canadian canola imports. This surge in demand is anticipated to help lower domestic rapeseed prices in India and provide a way for China to replace its Canadian imports. Meanwhile, Canada's wheat and canola exports have seen a notable increase, reaching 6.866 million tonnes in the 2024/25 fiscal year, with canola production expected to rise to 18.46 million tonnes in the 2025/26 season, despite a reduction in planted area.
