The Ministry of Commerce in Indonesia has observed a remarkable surge in the demand for Indonesian durian in China, with expectations to hit 8 billion US dollars by 2024, up from 2 billion in 2022 and 6 billion in 2023. Didi Sumedi, the Director General of National Export Development, emphasized the increasing popularity of the montong variety of durian and encouraged plantation farmers to enhance quality and boost production to meet this rising demand. Although durian is experiencing high demand, it still does not rank as Indonesia's top-earning fruit commodity, with pineapple, banana, avocado, and mangosteen also enjoying popularity in international markets such as Japan, Australia, and other Asian countries.
