China is the primary consumer of Brazilian soybeans, importing 70-80% of Brazil's production, and there is potential for further cooperation due to the high quality, productivity, and minimal environmental impact of Brazilian soybeans. In 2025, China signed contracts to purchase 2.4 million tons of Brazilian soybeans, nearly a third of its average monthly imports. Despite the US and China agreeing to eliminate or suspend tariffs, Brazilian soybean exporters have not noticed an immediate effect. Brazil's soybean production is expected to rise from 147 million tonnes in the 2023/2024 season to 165 million tonnes in the 2025/2026 season, with China continuing to be a major buyer. Brazil is also looking to diversify its exports to China, which includes oil, iron ore, animal protein, sugar, cellulose, and coffee.
