The Shanghai Agrobiological Genetic Center has developed drought-resistant and water-saving hybrid rice suitable for use in Africa, especially in countries like Kenya and Botswana. These new rice varieties have the potential to save more than 50% of the water normally needed for cultivation, reduce the need for fertilizers, and produce higher yields. The focus on improving rice production in Africa is part of a larger plan by the Chinese government to support modern agriculture in the continent through joint research projects and technology transfer.
