(Chuncheon=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Sang-hak = Chuncheon City officially announced the "Forest-based Urban Transformation" on the 2nd. Chuncheon City held the final report meeting for the "Establishment of Chuncheon Mountain Industry 4.0 Service" at the city hall conference room on the same day, unveiling the city's future forest policy. This project is noteworthy as it is the first instance at the city level to establish a comprehensive strategy for the city to use forests as a growth engine by combining them with industry, tourism, and ecology. At the report meeting, four core strategies were presented: advancing mountain management businesses for creating carbon absorption sources, expanding the production of forest bio raw materials for the anti-aging industry, creating forest attractions centered on pleasure and leisure, and fostering future material industries based on wood. Additionally, the development of forest tourism resources that combine healing, leisure, and cultural elements based on Chuncheon's forest resources will be promoted. This includes the creation of specialized forests such as the UNESCO No. 1 forest, story forests, and riding forests, along with plans to cultivate a new material industry based on wood to build an ecosystem where local universities, companies, and forestry cooperatives grow together. Mayor Yuk Dong-han said, "During my tenure as the head of the Gangwon Research Institute, I was convinced of the potential of the forests while planning Gangwon's forest policy" and "Based on that experience, I will strategically implement forests, the key asset for the city's future, in a way that suits Chuncheon." hak@yna.co.kr
