Pará is on track to become Brazil's leading cocoa producer by 2024, with an estimated output of over 152 thousand tons, representing 51.80% of the country's total production. This achievement is due to the annual expansion of cocoa plantations by about 8 thousand hectares. The state's cocoa industry, which supplies 95% of its produce to multinational companies in Ilhéus, Bahia, and supports local artisanal chocolate industries and exports, has created over 350 thousand jobs and is recognized internationally for its high-quality beans, especially from Medicilândia. The state government, led by Governor Helder Barbalho, has been instrumental in this growth through initiatives like the Pará Cocoa Production Development Fund (Funcacau), promoting sustainable and vertically integrated production. Additionally, local entrepreneurs, such as the owner of Sedap, a chocolate factory in Moju, have benefited from state support and incentives, highlighting the increasing role of the state in fostering the cocoa and chocolate production industry.
