The price of cocoa in Nigeria has soared to a record high of N15 million per ton due to disease outbreaks in Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana, the world's leading cocoa producers, causing a loss of approximately 40% of the crop. This significant increase has been noted by the Executive Director of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, Dr Patrick Adebola, during the institute's 60th anniversary and the 18th Research Institutes Games of Nigeria. Adebola emphasized the potential of cocoa farming, explaining that a hectare can yield 1.5 tons, translating to a profit of N12 million per ton, and emphasized the low maintenance requirements of the crop.
