The Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA) has halted the import of raw shrimp and other high-risk crustacean products from Ecuador to prevent the spread of the White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) into disease-free areas of Colombia. This action was taken after WSSV was detected in frozen raw shrimp from Ecuador. ICA is working with Ecuador's Ministry of Aquaculture and Fisheries to address the issue and will continue to assess biosecurity measures. The suspension will remain until scientific evidence confirms effective sanitary risk management. In the first quarter of this year, Colombia imported 3,115 metric tons of shrimp from Ecuador, representing 96% of the country's shrimp imports.
