The European Commission, despite concerns over food shortages due to the Ukraine conflict, remains committed to the EU's sustainable food goals. It recently formed an expert group, the European food security crisis preparedness and response mechanism (EFSCM), to address food supply chain issues. The group's first meeting discussed addressing coordination challenges in the agri-food sector, particularly in light of potential trade disruptions. The Commission, however, rejected the idea of revising the agri-food part of the EU's Green Deal. The meeting also highlighted urgent issues like declining animal feed and seed supplies, and the need for relaxed EU rules on pesticides and GMOs for sourcing from countries like the US. The Commission's stance on these proposals remains undecided.
