Community wine production in the EU will fall in line with the decline in consumption

Wine consumption in the EU will continue to decline between now and 2035 at a rate of 1% per year and there will also be a drop in community wine production, according to the medium-term market outlook report published by the European Commission. The decrease in production could be 0.6% annually until that year, which would reach 145 million hectoliters in 2035. The downward evolution in wine production would be due both to a decrease in the surface dedicated to the vineyard and a reduction in yields, which will be affected not only by adverse weather phenomena (to which the sector has been trying to adapt for years) but also by the lower availability of phytosanitary products and irrigation restrictions in some countries producers.
