COP30/London/Sadiq Khan: Trump is ahead of the climate destroyers

By Juliana Garçon Rio, 3/11/2025 - The mayor of London and co-president of C40 (a network of major global cities committed to combating the climate crisis) recently said that the president of the United States, Donald Trump, is the main climate destroyer. “This is an existential struggle between the climate destroyers and us, the climate defenders. And let’s be clear: at the head of these destroyers is the president of the United States of America, someone who, just a few weeks ago, went up to the podium of the United Nations and called the climate crisis a ‘hoax’.” Khan further said that Trump wants “to chain us to the fossil fuels of the past, vandalizing our planet and our homes with scorching temperatures, more pollution, and more climate disasters.” The mayor is participating in the Local Leaders Forum of COP 30 (United Nations Conference on Climate Change), which brings together around 300 mayors from cities around the world, from today until Wednesday.
