The Dutch hop growing industry is experiencing a resurgence, with the number of hop growers and breweries with their own hop fields reaching 45, up from just two at the turn of the century. This growth is largely due to the rise in craft beer breweries, of which the Netherlands now has over 900, compared to about 70 at the start of the century. The demand for aromatic hops, used in bitter and extra hoppy beers like IPA, has increased due to their popularity. While professional hop growers are mainly located in the east of the country and North Brabant, breweries with their own hop fields are more common in the west, often used for marketing and customer engagement rather than production.
