Italy has become the first country globally to outlaw the production, marketing, and import of synthetic cultivated food, including lab-grown meat, due to potential health risks and the need to safeguard the agri-food sector. The European Commission has confirmed the law's compatibility with EU law, according to Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida. The decision was backed by 14 out of 26 nations, with some considering similar legislation. Lollobrigida has also called for more scientific data, transparency, and a public consultation on the matter.
